LUCY'S WARBLER!!!!!

By Sightings-RBA - Posted on 12 November 2011

I don't think I need to say anything more than the title.  I had the day off so I was lounging around watching football when I was summoned to the point as a LUCY'S WARBLER had just been found by Karl Overman, Adam Byrne, and Brad Murphy.  I arrived and it was still hanging out with a few chickadees and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher next to the gift shop.  This will be a first record for Michigan if accepted, the first record for the Midwest, and one of less than a handful of records from east of the Mississippi River.

Also seen today were the continuing Northern Gannet, 40+ Rough-legged Hawks, Glaucous Gull, Snowy Owl, and the sparrow trio (Lark, Clay-colored, and Chipping).

Not a bad day overall for northern Michigan in early November.

The following pictures were taken by Karl Overman, and many thanks to him for obtaining such good shots of a tricky bird.

680 Lucy's Warbler #2

You always wonder how many times the the species has been in the state before it's espied. Very cool and great photos---got to love the  cheap pixel.

Wow! What a record! Along with all of the other midwest rarities, it makes a person wonder whether climate change is causing birds to wander furthur from their accustomed ranges.
