It’s been a relatively slow September in terms of numbers of migrating waterbirds. But, the number of jaegers coming by the point has been great! So, if you’re a true “lakewatcher” this is a great season for you. We’re at about 45-50 total, including evening flights. Luckily, all three species have been represented during the count. In terms of ducks we have had good aythya and dabbling duck flights during the 2nd half of September. And, scoters are starting to pick up and should peak in the first half of October. Shorebirds have slowed down to a crawl lately. The only reliable species right now is American Golden-Plover. There are lots of east winds predicted for the next week so the flights may be slow but there is always a chance at a vagrant!
