The transition we often see at this time of the year, when juvenile Northern Saw-whet Owl (NSWO) numbers increase and adult NSWO numbers decrease, took place this past week. Since our last post, we have banded 59 juvenile and 12 adult NSWO. Tonight the total number of juveniles banded this summer surpassed the number of adults, and that gap will increase as the summer goes on. In other news, rain last Wednesday night gave us our first night off this summer. Unbelievably, that was my first night off in July since 2018. How is it possible that we did not have a single night of high winds or rain at Whitefish Point in July 2019 or 2020?
