Highlights:
Brewer’s Blackbird and Forster’s Tern

Four Forster’s Terns spent some time around the Point on Oct. 11, and a Brewer’s Blackbird was present on Oct. 14. A late Bay-breasted Warbler was present on Oct. 16 and 17. After a week and a half of unseasonably warm weather and southerly winds, the last few days have finally felt like mid-October. Cooler temperatures and more favorable winds have finally triggered a push of mid-season migrants and brought some new arrivals.

The last few days have brought good numbers of Dark-eyed Juncos, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Pine Siskins, and Purple Finch. Winter Wren numbers have increased, and the first American Tree Sparrows, Common Redpolls, and Snow Buntings arrived in recent days. White-winged Crossbills continue to be sporadic in low numbers, and Red Crossbills were present today after a long absence. As the month progresses, we hope that the mid-season migrants maintain their movement through the Point in good numbers, and we see the late-season migrants continue to arrive.
