Well, we have thunderstorms and high winds right now, and the lights just flickered. So, here’s a quick update before a potential power outage. The weather has been more unsettled this week, and the owls have been relatively slow during recent nights. Our season now stands at 118 juvenile and 99 adult Northern Saw-whet Owls banded. The Long-eared Owls have been very slow considering the first one showed up on July 2; we have banded just six so far. Hopefully, weather conditions will improve, and things will pick up a bit.

Owl Banding Presentations — Visitors may observe owls that have been banded on Friday and Saturday evenings from dusk until midnight. Please note that banding is weather dependent and it is at the banders’ discretion to cancel banding accordingly. Observation will be limited to outdoors only and we encourage participants to wear masks and continue to practice social distancing whenever possible. For the safety of the owls, flash photography and recording video is prohibited.
